Freeform Red Flash Opal Ring in 14kt Yellow Gold with Diamond Accent

The stunning Australian opal in this elegant ring is actually an opalized clam shell. The remains of many sea creatures sink to the bottom of sea beds, the fleshy parts being eaten by other sea creatures, leaving the shells, composed of calcium carbonate. These shells can become fossilized under layers of sediment and often parts will be dissolved by chemicals in the soil, leaving cavities where opal can deposit. Opalized shells are highly prized by gem enthusiasts and collectors.

The opalized clam shell in this ring features a phenomenal play of color, with predominant red flash accompanied by all the colors of the spectrum. The wide patches of color add to the gem's beauty and value. Gold tendrils wrap around the freeform cabochon opal, which is securely bezel set, further protecting it from damage and signs of wear. A single bezel set diamond is nestled below one golden ribbon, weighing 0.03 carats.
